2019 World Diabetes Day: Family and Diabetes
Today is World Diabetes Day. It was created in 1991 by International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes.
International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is raising awareness of the impact that diabetes has on the family and support network of those affected, and promoting the role of the family in the management, care, prevention and education of diabetes.
Nigeria is one of the 32 countries of the IDF African region. 425 million people have diabetes in the world and more than 16 million people in the AFR Region; by 2045 it will be around 41 million. There were 1,702,900 cases of diabetes in Nigeria in 2015.
