INEC accused of altering result of Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Fed. Constituency in Rivers state
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been accused of allegedly falsifying the results of the recently rescheduled Akuku-Toru / Asari-Toru federal constituency that took place alongside the guber and state house of assembly elections on the 9th March, 2019.
According to a statement issued by the candidate for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ibinabo Sonny Amachree (Labo), INEC has refused to announce the result of the election but has gone ahead to subvert the will of the people and uphold Boma Goodhead of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the election.
“I contested for election into the House of reps to represent Akuku-Toru/ Asari Toru federal constituency on the platform of APGA and while waiting at the collation centre for the announcement of a winner in an election I was comfortably leading with over 38000 votes, information came that the collation should suspended.
“I petitioned the INEC Chairman, copying the security agents over this development with attached copies of Polling Unit results which showed I was clearly in the lead with over 38000 votes so as to avert any attempt to succumb to any pressure to change the results of the election.
“I was asked to bring the original copies which were verified. Later the petition was referred to Barrister Wilfred of Rivers INEC legal office, and since then, there has been no official announcement of the outcome of a process as important as an election to the house of reps.
I am aware of the horse trading going on but I want to alert the whole world about how staff of INEC messed up the reputation of the organization and hope to get away with it.
“I therefore call on the INEC Chairman to look into this matter wholesomely,” he stated.
