Is it Scientifically Possible For All Humans to Have Descended From Two People (Adam and Eve)?
No, not at all.
There is a concept in biology of ‘m
One report suggest a median MVP of 4,169 individuals, for terrestrial vertebrate species to sustain a population in the wild with no help. For humans it might be lower because we have communities with which to make policies with regard to the population.
With fewer than 1000 individuals it would be best for them to have as many children with as many partners as possible and some kind of eugenics policy to weed out the genetically weak would probably be necessary.
There are many different models and calculations to determine the MVP under different circumstances, and some sources go as low as 160 individuals.
All people living on the island Tristan Da Cunha (the most isolated island on Earth) can derive themselves from 15 individuals, 8 males and 7 females. The population is a textbook example taught in genetics courses.
Interesting. However, there are a few problems with the Tristan Da Cunha story.
200 years is nowhere near enough time for a study in whether a population can be sustained. Their numbers have increased in that time, but their genetic diversity has drastically decreased.
Also, they started off with a much greater genetic diversity than anything that would be found in nature, with a health mix of European and African genes. Also, a Russian injected even more diversity 100 years ago.
And finally, there are serious health problems on the island, with glaucoma and asthma being much more prevalent than in other populations. It’s not a healthy population, and without modern medicine, tools, farming techniques, communal care, etc, they would be seriously disadvantaged.
Anyways, Adam and Eve were REALITY and so are the scientific conclusions from DNA research.
