The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has debunked the news making the rounds that he, in cohoot with the Labour Party Governorship Candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, were plotting against President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the news as fake news.
In a press release signed by CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Emefiele, denied the allegation that he had made a huge amount of money available to Rhodes-Vivour to prosecute the gubernatorial election rescheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2023.
The CBN Governor declared that the story “is completely false and malicious as the Governor does not know and has never met or even spoke with Mr Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour either in person or through proxy.”
CBN Chief also stated that he was not involved in politics and urged anyone with facts to prove him wrong. He also asked to be allowed to focus on his job in order to achieve the “statutory mandates of the Bank.”
The full press release states: “The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been drawn to a story published in The Nation newspaper of Monday, March 13, 2023 edition, alleging that the Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele has launched a “fresh plot against President-elect”.
“The aforementioned story went further to allege that the Governor has made certain amount of money available to a political aspirant ahead of March 18, 2023 gubernatorial poll.
“We wish to inform members of the public that this story is completely false and malicious as the Governor does not know and has never met or even spoke with Mr Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour either in person or through proxy.
