Cricket: NCF appoints Sri Lankan as new head coach of Nigeria

The President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Professor Yahaya Ukwenya, has confirmed that Sri Lankan, Asanka Gurushina, has been appointed as the new head coach of Nigeria.

Gurushina, who was part of Sri Lanka’s World Cup-winning team in 1996 HAS arrived Nigeria to resume his new position.

The 54-year-old had an 11-year international career, playing 41 Tests and 147 One Day International for Sri Lanka and was crucial in the country’s final victory over Australia at Lahore in 1996 with 65 runs scored.

Asanka will lead the Nigeria Cricket Federation’s high-performance unit and also act as coach trainer and mentor to the country’s rapidly growing number of local coaches.
