Checkpoints along the Port Harcourt – Owerri expressway are now deserted allowing for free passage of motorists, after deadly attacks left nine security personnel dead on Saturday night.
The officers were killed by unknown gunmen during a two-hour attack on Three joint task force checkpoints and another manned by nigerian customs service officers along the Omagwa-Elele axis of the road.
Those who lost their lives in the attack include four policemen, two airforce officers and three personnel of the Nigerian customs service.
The hoodlums also carted away the service rifles and some patrol vehicles belonging to the victims.
