The Socio – Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has given the National Broadcasting Commission 48 hours to reverse the N 9 m fine imposed on Channels Television, Arise TV and Africa Independent Television.
SERAP said in a tweet that if the fine was not rescinded, it would sue the NBC .
The tweet read, “ We condemn the illegal fines of N 9 m reportedly imposed by the National Broadcasting Commission on Channels TV , AIT and Arise TV over their coverage of the #EndSARS protests.
“ We will sue NBC if the unconstitutional fines are not rescinded within 48 hours .”
The Director -General of the NBC, Prof . Armstrong Idachaba , had accused the three TV stations of using unverified video footage obtained from the social media.
He said the act contravened the NBC Code and was capable of heating up the polity.
