Two APC Members Die, Three Missing in Delta Boat Accident

Two members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State have lost their lives, while three were declared missing, following a boat mishap at Okerenkoko in Warri South West Local Council of the state.

Seven others were hospitalised as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. Director, Communications and Media Strategy of the party, Mr. Ima Niboro, who confirmed the accident in a statement made available to newsmen in Asaba, said the accident occurred on Tuesday evening, and involved loyal party members and supporters who were returned from APC rally in Okerenkoko community.

He said the Deputy Senate President and Delta State APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and the state APC Campaign Council received with shock and grief of the boat accident

According to Niboro, a commercial boat travelling in the opposite direction rammed into the boat carrying APC supporters, and it resulted to the tragic accident.

“We are shocked by this tragedy, and our hearts are heavy. Our prayers and thoughts are with the victims and their families. This is one tragedy too many, and our party is officially in mourning.

“We are currently working with the relevant authorities and communities to search for the missing persons. We are also in the process of reaching out to the families and loved ones of those that lost their lives, while ensuring that the injured receive the best care possible.

“In honour of the dead, missing and injured, we have decided to suspend indefinitely all further campaigns. The Campaign Council will advise on next steps in the coming days and weeks,” he said.

Meanwhile, APC has expressed deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and pray that Almighty God comforts and gives them fortitude in these trying times.
